About the role

Main Purpose of the Job

The role is to provide a reliable and accountable social work service according to government regulations. This includes assessing situations, taking action, creating plans, and reviewing progress for children, young people, and their families.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Manage assigned cases and participate in short-term assessments.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of all social work activities.
  • Inform service users of their right to access and complain about their records.
  • Prepare reports and communications for various audiences, including meetings, conferences, courts, and other agencies.
  • Ensure all work adheres to established policies, procedures, guidelines, and laws.
  • Address the specific needs of service users and carers from diverse backgrounds, promoting equality in all aspects of the job.
  • Participate in the service unit's duty systems as required.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with relevant external agencies.
  • Utilize information technology for data entry.
  • Prioritize safety by ensuring the well-being of team members and staff by mitigating potential risks of violence.
  • Attend, contribute to, and actively participate in supervision sessions as per departmental policies.

Additional Responsibilities for Senior Social Workers

  • Provide supervision to social workers, students, and/or social work assistants.
  • Participate in project work relevant to the service unit.
  • Manage cases with intricate risk factors.
  • Make independent decisions on assigned cases during daily operations.
About you

Knowledge

  • Children Act 1989 and other relevant legislation
  • Child protection policy, procedures and practice
  • Theory regarding best practice in child and family assessment and planning, with ability to reference research and theory
  • Issues faced by children and families from diverse backgrounds

Aptitude

  • Analyze data and formulate plans for intervention and service provision
  • Work in partnership with parents, carers, and other agencies
  • Undertake direct work with children, young people, families
  • Produce clear and literate records, reports, and correspondence electronically
  • Organize own work
  • Recognize limits of accountability and responsibility, seek support and supervision
  • Provide supervision and consultation
  • Utilize Information Technology for recording and reporting

Skills

  • Communication with public, agencies, children, and families
  • Form relationships with children, young people, and families
  • Assess and plan in child care situations
  • Represent the Authority in court independently
  • Advise and make decisions on cases

Experience

  • Assessment and planning for children and young people
  • Minimum two years of demonstrable post-qualifying experience working with children and families (or senior-level expertise)

Professional Qualifications

  • Strong literacy and numeracy
  • Social Worker Degree or equivalent (original certificates required)
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and evidence-based practice
  • Registration with Social Work England

Personal Qualities

  • Self-motivated, excellent interpersonal skills, flexible

Special Requirements

  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends
  • Ability to work independently
