About the role

This role focuses on working in partnership with the community to identify outcomes and then to work with third parties and the community itself to design and commission services to best meet the needs of the citizens and communities in Sutton.

In order to achieve outcomes, this role is required to work collaboratively with others, the most common example being commissioning staff that will monitor local partner activity in order to ensure the delivery of high quality results. 


At the lower levels, this role will undertake specific commissioning for discrete services. At the higher level, these roles set commissioning outcomes across a broad range of thematic services.

 

The Community Safety Officer will be part of a team of Community Safety Officers who work across a range of community safety issues in Sutton. Individuals may have particular areas of focus or work across a range of issues. These include but are not limited to: 

Violence against women and girls and domestic abuse
Hate crime
Prevent and counter-terrorism
Integrated Offender Management (IOM)
Anti-social behaviour 
Serious violence
Gangs
And other crime types that over time become an issue in Sutton 

The Council’s community safety team is dual based at Sutton Police Station / Sutton Civic Offices and this role will involve working closely with the Police and other partners and agencies to improve outcomes for residents. 

About you

We would like you to have:

  • Experience of working in community safety or on the areas of work this post covers (essential).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and workstreams (desirable).
  • Experience of and ability to build and maintain effective partnerships with organisations, partners and agencies including statutory and community organisations (desirable).
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation for Community Safety and the work of Community Safety Partnerships.  (desirable).
  • Ability to collect, analyse and interpret data and information to understand trends, patterns and draw conclusions (essential).
  • Ability to use council and police software to upload and extract information (desirable)
  • Be able to positively inform and Influence decision-making by partners at appropriate levels (desirable).
  • Good written and verbal communication skills including the ability to present at meetings and write reports / briefings (essential).
  • Understanding of the local government context, the role of elected members and officers, and politically aware (essential).
  • Organised and confident self-starter, able to adapt and think creatively (essential).
  • A team player (essential).
