About the role

Lambeth is looking for a highly motivated Team Manager to manage a fast-paced Kinship Assessment Team within our Fostering and Permanency Service. As Team Manager you will help us to deliver high quality assessments to kinship carers to achieve our vision of making Lambeth one of the best places in the world for children and young people to grow up.

You will manage a team of 5 permanent social workers and 1 compliance officer. In Lambeth we put children and their families at the heart of our practice, and practice at the heart of all that we do. You will be joining an ambitious, passionate, and committed leadership team working at pace to create the conditions for effective social work to flourish. Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering high quality, inclusive services responsive to the needs of young people and the wider community
  • Addressing the safeguarding needs of children and young people
  • Promoting corporate parenting principles across the council
  • Supporting social workers to be the agents of change and enabling them to undertake good quality, meaningful social work
  • Ensuring performance indicators are met whilst taking budget responsibility

About you

You will need to be social work qualified with significant experience in fostering, kinship or special guardianship assessment teams. You will have extensive knowledge of the Children Act and other areas of social work legislation including a sound understanding and working knowledge of the fostering regulations and standards. The ideal candidate will:

  • Have experience of managing others within a fostering service
  • Have a passion to lead and motivate staff to demonstrate best practice
  • Have the ability to manage risk and use multidisciplinary working with partner agencies
  • Ensure a high level of compliance with the statutory and regulatory requirements of the service
  • Have strong leadership skills and a passion for continuous improvements
  • Have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively within a performance framework
  • Demonstrate and role model responses and decisions in the best interests of children, young people, and families using 'role generosity'
