As part of the wider Pan London Care Leavers Compact project, which aims to create a common care leavers' support offer, the Mayor of London has announced that care leavers aged 18-25 across London will be entitled to half price bus and tram travel through Transport for London.
The scheme will help to offset the cost of living for care leavers at a critical lifestage, as young care leavers often find it particularly challenging to balance training, education or employment with the demands of a transition to independent living.
The travel discount sits alongside other London-wide initiatives aimed at improving support after leaving care, such as the creation of 200 new Care Leaver Apprenticeships and the development of a free prescriptions offer.
