The London Borough of Bromley is a fantastic place to live and work, where everyone can lead healthy, safe and independent lives in supportive communities.

Our organisation’s culture and values are important, and we encourage and share with all our employees for the good of everyone. Ultimately, our culture impacts on the Council and its service delivery, the attitude and behaviour at work and our own personal values. Bromley’s values can be summed up by the acronym: REAL

  • R- Respect for ourselves, the people we work with and the customers that we deal with when providing our services

  • E- Empower ourselves, other agencies and the community to deliver services that meet the needs of our customers in the most appropriate and efficient manner

  • A- Ambition for ourselves and our community should drive our efforts to improve services and find new ways of working - we should never accept second best for our customers

  • L- Learn from others and our own experiences to improve and extend our own performance and that of the organisation.

Children are a high priority in Bromley with their needs championed and embedded in the wider council. Children’s services is one of the key priorities in the Council’s Corporate Plan ‘Making Bromley Even Better’ we are ambitious ‘For children and young people to grow up, thrive and have the best life chances in families who flourish and are happy to call Bromley home’.

Our Safeguarding Partnership is well respected with a strong mandate focused on ensuring effective work is happening on the ground between partners. Operationally and strategically, we are characterised by a shared ownership of safeguarding.

Our practitioners know their children well and are unwavering in developing committed relationships. We have embedded our model of working through the Bromley Relationship Model. We believe children and their families benefit from our approach of working from a relationship-based perspective. This means taking account of them as individuals including their cultural diversity and contextual settings, while not losing focus on the need to keep children safe. Manageable caseloads delivered through the ‘Bromley Caseload Promise’ allow social workers to consistently spend time with children.

Bromley is staffed by a high percentage of permanent social workers and Managers. This ensures that children have consistent social work relationships and ways of working are bedded in.
